There are a number of businesses and organizations that help to manage and distribute excess food in San Diego County. Many are looking for ways to distribute that excess food to people in need. I am hoping we can build a distribution network within the park. We should strive for a system that is fair, open, and convenient. The project is just getting started with help from some of the nice folks at Porchlight Community Services.
For now, we have picked up two deliveries and both are (or have been) available at the Club House:

All the food has been distributed! Thanks to everyone who helped!! 🙂
Here’s the empty freezer to prove it:

Update September 21st, 2023:
We got a call to pick up our third food delivery and sent an email to everyone in the Resident’s Association list. The email requested a text message for anyone wanting food. Then we picked up the food and drove it back for final delivery. Everyone who requested it got a delivery. We also passed some out at both of our parks. This delivery was a nice mix with a lot of beautiful pumpkin pies. Here’s a sample:

Update September 22nd, 2023:
September 21st was the first time we began using a delivery system, and it went pretty well. We estimate that the food was delivered to approximately 20 to 30 people. We used a system somewhat like the following proposed delivery system (the slides start after the black screen and then repeat):

The first step in the proposed system is getting a call that there’s food available for pickup. The second step is finding a driver to pick it up and distribute it. The third step is the driver asking who would like to get a delivery (ideally by text message, but possibly by email). As the delivery requests arrive (by text or email), the driver picks up the food and brings it back to the park. The final step is delivering the food to each resident in the order that the deliveries were requested.
Update September 24th, 2023:
We got another load of food tonight:

Please stop by the clubhouse and take what you can use. 🙂
