At 2:25 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, the club house was filling up fast for the well-advertised concert–guitar and voice—by Dan Miller, a park resident and hale-fellow-well-met. The occasion was most welcome for park residents, a harbinger of spring and an opportunity to get out of the house and to be together.
It being St. Patrick’s Day, everyone came wearing some shade of green—few in what would be considered Irish green, but the thought was good, and the variety just reflected the range of people gathered there.
Dan arrived at 2:30 with two guitars, a music stand on which he placed his cell phone set up with prompts, and several props—mostly head gear—to add to the fun and entertainment value. He began with “I get by with a little help from my friends.” (Ain’t that the truth?)
His program included all of the following songs, and probably a few others:
- A Little Help From My Friends (the Beatles)
- When Irish Eyes are Smilin’
- I’m Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover
- This Land is My Land (Woodie/Arlo Guthrie)
- My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean
- Don’t You Hurt Her, Now
- Blood Bank
- Eileen Aroon
- Five Foot Two
- Ain’t She Sweet
- Hello, Young Lovers (The King and I)
- Georgia, Georgia
- (Sweet Georgia Brown?)
- Home on the Range
- Country Roads (John Denver)
- Ridin’ On The MTA
- Que Sera, Sera
- Toora, Loora, Loora
There was swaying, clapping, mouthing—and actually singing!—along, and big smiles all around. It was a very enjoyable time for everyone, with many thanks to Dan for his generous gift of his talents and spriteliness.
